Major College Football Teams Should Leave NCAA, Says Knight Commission

By

Andrew Cohen

The Knight Commission issued a report on Thursday recommending that all Football Bowl Subdivision teams should split from the NCAA and form their own governing body. NCAA president Mark Emmert met Thursday with the Knight Commission to discuss the recommendation.

The Knight Commission is a panel comprised of university presidents, former athletic directors, and other leaders in sport dedicated to pursuing reform in college athletics. The group’s proposal would see all sports except FBS football continue to operate under the NCAA while FBS programs form a separate entity called the National College Football Association.

The NCAA currently provides all regulatory services to college football but does not benefit from the sport’s biggest money maker, the College Football Playoff, which generated $460 million in 2019 and is independently owned by the 10 FBS conferences. The

The NFL saw it this past weekend when the Denver Broncos’ quartet of rostered and practice squad QBs got themselves in a COVID-19 thicket. The team turned to Kendall Hinton, who made the best of an absolutely impossible situation.

In 1965, the Baltimore Colts had a quarterback quandary. Johnny Unitas and Gary Cuozzo were unavailable. The Colts turned their offense over to running back Tom Matte, who handled himself quite well.

Matte, now 81, reached out to Hinton this week.

“Fifty-five years ago, I was in your shoes,” Matte wrote per DenverBroncos.com. “I was the Baltimore Colts’ ‘instant quarterback’ and believe me, it was an experience I’ll never forget! Late in the 1965 season, our quarterbacks – John Unitas and Gary Cuozzo – were injured. My usual position

Russell is THE story of the weekend. Thanks Covid, for everything. Not a sentiment you thought would resonate anywhere in this

A high school junior is raising money to donate 430 pairs of shoes to Galveston Elementary School in Chandler through the Shoes That Fit organization.

Sam Bregman, a 16-year-old student at Hamilton High School, has a goal to raise $14,000 by mid-December, which he says will be enough money to buy every student a pair of $30 sneakers and five new pairs of socks.

So far, Sam has raised over $8,600 from 124 donors for Shoes That Fit.However, $14,000 is his minimum goal. Bregman hopes to be able to raise closer to $22,000 to help other students in the Valley in need of new shoes.

“This is very important for these students because it is a walking school,” Bregman said. The majority of kids at Galveston Elementary School walk to school. There is not a
