Billy Joe Saunders looks to keep momentum in his bid to secure a super fight in 2021 with his first fight since the Covid-19 pandemic, which cost him an opportunity against Canelo Alvarez.

The WBO super middleweight world champion remains unbeaten but after the pandemic postponed his fight, the Mexican superstar agreed to fight domestic rival Callum Smith, who owns the WBC title at 168 pounds.

British veteran Martin Murray is Saunders’ opponent at the SSE Arena this evening, with the pair supposed to have fought years ago but for an injury to Saunders.

Should Saunders impress, then Canelo may revisit a potential fight against him in 2021, though Murray is likely to throw everything at him in his final opportunity at this level from a great career that has seen the biggest prize prove illusive.

After surviving a horrific car crash last October, undefeated welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. is ready to climb between the ropes again.

Spence (26-0, 21 KOs) will put his WBC and IBF world titles on the line Saturday night when he takes on Danny Garcia (36-2, 21 KOs) at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. He’s hoping 13 months of ring rust doesn’t get in the way of him furthering what has already been an excellent career.

One could have forgiven the 30-year-old if he opted for a tune-up fight in his first foray back into the ring after that single-car crash in Dallas, a collision that he escaped without serious injury and also resulted in a driving while intoxicated charge. He was ultimately sentenced to probation.

Instead, “The Truth” is getting right back into the mix by fighting Garcia, a former welterweight and junior welterweight world

Anthony Joshua says Oleksandr Usyk looking like stronger possibility for 2021 fight, not Tyson Fury

Anthony Joshua says he believes he’s more likely to face Oleksandr Usyk in 2021 than his rival world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

Promoters of Joshua and Fury have talked about the Englishmen meeting for all four major world titles, but Deontay Wilder insists he has a contractual right to a third fight with Fury next and has taken legal action.

Joshua (23-1, 21 KOs), 31, defends his WBA, IBF and WBO belts against Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev in London on Dec. 14 and he is wondering if a victory would set up a different fight to Fury.

Joshua says Usyk (18-0, 13 KOs), the former undisputed world cruiserweight champion who is the WBO mandatory challenge, is a stronger

Evander Holyfield wants to fight Mike Tyson for a third time: ‘No more excuses’

Evander Holyfield heard about the hype behind a 54-year-old Mike Tyson returning to the ring to fight a 51-year-old Roy Jones Jr. and decided that he wanted in on the action. The former undisputed heavyweight champion has called out Iron Mike for one last bout between the two middle-aged men.

“No more excuses,” said Holyfield in a statement, per Reuters. “This is the fight that must happen for both our legacies. Saturday night you said you were ready to fight me, so sign the contract and get in the ring, Tyson. The world is waiting and it’s on you now. I’m ready.”

If there’s anyone who understands the magnitude of the draw these two fighters can still bring, it’s Holyfield. Not only does the boxer keep his ear to the ground on such things, but Tyson once helped it get there in one of their two famous bouts.

Time to fire up the wayback machine.

Following Mike Tyson’s successful return to the ring on Saturday, a pair of former champions are clamoring for another shot at the former heavyweight world champion.

“Sure, I would welcome the opportunity,’’ the 60-year-old Douglas told USA TODAY Sports. “Being a prizefighter all those years and still feeling pretty good today, you always feel you got one more fight in you.’’

Douglas made his pitch following Tyson’s eight-round exhibition fight Saturday with Roy Jones Jr., which ended in a draw.

That brings us to another former foe of Tyson: Evander Holyfield. Now 58, Holyfield wants back in. Per Sportsnet:

“My side tried to make the fight happen and we got nothing but excuses,” Holyfield said in a
