College Football Playoff impact games include Clemson, Texas A&M,

SportsPulse: Dan Wolken reacts to the second College Football Playoff rankings and believes Ohio State can get into the playoff without qualifying for the Big Ten championship game given the committee’s track record.

It would take some truly wild happenings to alter the playoff picture at this late stage, but truly crazy happenings have been part and parcel in college football for decades.

Even bearing that in mind, No. 1 Alabama and No. 2 Notre Dame aren’t likely to be knocked from their perches this weekend. The Crimson Tide’s once-anticipated date with LSU is now a mere footnote thanks to the Tigers’ 2020 tumble, and the Fighting Irish host 1-9 Syracuse in what amounts to a tune-up for the ACC title game in two weeks.

We’ll turn our attention to the quest for the remaining coveted spots among the top four around the power leagues.

UPDATE 2-Olympics-Japanese organisers say 2020 Games delay to cost them $2.8 bln

(Updates with background, quotes)

By Jack Tarrant

TOKYO, Dec 4 (Reuters) – The postponement of the Tokyo Olympic Games until next year because of the novel coronavirus pandemic will cost Japanese organisers an additional 294 billion yen ($2.8 billion), the organising committee said on Friday.

Organisers have been assessing the financial impact of the delay since the Japanese government and International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided in March to postpone the Games until 2021.

Tokyo metropolitan government is expected to pay 120 billion yen, the organising committee 103 billion yen and the Japanese government 71 billion yen, organisers said.

The IOC has previously said it will contribute $650 million towards covering postponement costs. This is separate from the costs announced by Japanese organisers on Friday.

“Tokyo’s costs are Tokyo’s costs,” Tokyo 2020 CEO Toshiro Muto said.

“Tokyo 2020’s (allocation) is revenue that we can secure,” he added.

“Within this revenue we

Emanuel Reynoso sets MLS record, becomes first player with multiple three-assist playoff games

Emanuel “Bebelo” Reynoso has turned into an assist machine for Minnesota United FC during the Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs, becoming the first player with multiple three-assist playoff games in league history.

The part that makes it even more stunning? Reynoso has done it in back-to-back games, starting with Minnesota’s 3-0 win over the Colorado Rapids in Round One and carrying through Thursday evening’s Conference Semifinal at Sporting Kansas City. The single-game assists record is four, which Ante Razov got in September 2000 during a Chicago Fire game against the New England Revolution.

To get a sense of Reynoso’s form, look no further than Kevin Molino’s second goal that made it 2-0 in the 35th minute against Sporting. The Argentine No. 10 dropped an absolute dime to his fellow attacking midfielder, completing a first-half brace.

This isn’t a sudden surge in form, though. Reynoso has provided the assist on 10

DePaul women’s basketball is one of the few teams that wears masks during games, and the players won’t use it as an excuse

CHICAGO — The complaining lasted a week.

OK, it lasted a couple of weeks. All right, maybe it was a month.

Yet DePaul women’s basketball players have dutifully worn face masks during every practice since Aug. 7 and all three of their games this season.

“We’re pretty used to it,” senior guard Deja Church said. “We complained a lot about it. But like Coach (Doug) Bruno says, ‘We’re going to make adversity our best friend.’ With or without masks, we’ll play to the best of our abilities. We’re not going to make masks an excuse.”

Seeing coaches and players wearing masks on sidelines has become routine as a precaution during the COVID-19 pandemic.

But players competing in them? That’s rare.

Bullied to X Games gold

Ryan Williams will never forget the nasty words haters often threw in his direction.

“You’re never going to get anywhere riding a lame scooter.”

“You only ride a scooter because it’s easy.”

“Scooters are for losers.”

He was just a 12-year-old boy who had a passion for scootering. You know, that metal board mounted on two little wheels and attached to a long steering handle.

But back then, in the mid-noughties, it wasn’t exactly the most popular activity taking place at his local skate park in Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast. While those around him were grazing their knees from BMX bike falls and skateboard stacks, Williams was the odd one out, honing his craft on the humble kick scooter.

It was a craft he developed for a decade and a half, and now Williams, more commonly known as R-Willy, is considered the world’s premier scooter rider. Across scooter and

Key Lions defenders eager to see DC Cory Undlin’s fingerprint form in final 5 games

ALLEN PARK — Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Cory Undlin tried to temper imaginations, saying you can’t change an entire defense in three days.

Undlin made the remarks when asked about what should be expected in the team’s first game without Matt Patricia calling the shots. Patricia seemed to handle more of the defense in his last hurrah on Thanksgiving, but his dismissal opens the door to see what the first-year coordinator can offer.

Detroit’s defense hasn’t done much to instill confidence heading into the homestretch, regardless of scheme. The Lions have struggled in man and zone coverage, not to mention finding consistent pressure. Detroit’s pressure rate is ninth-worst in the league, averaging 21.6% blitzes per dropback, the fourth-lowest rate around.

“There’s going to be some similarities and little differences here and there, but as much as I want to tell you, you can’t give any click-bait to the Bears,” Lions

College football games on CBS Sports Network — Watch Air Force vs. Utah State live stream, TV channel

Buffalo jumped into the driver’s seat in the MAC’s East division with a 70-41 win over Kent State last week and will look to stay there on Saturday when the Bulls play at Ohio in one of six games on CBS Sports Network this weekend. But the 2-1 Bobcats should have a pretty good idea of how to slow Buffalo down, because it’s a recipe that has worked for them the past two seasons. It’s all about stopping Jaret Patterson.

A junior running back coming off a 1,799-yard season, Patterson made his name known around the country last week when he tied an FBS record with eight rushing touchdowns against Kent State. In all, he finished with 409 yards on the ground, falling just short of another FBS record. But in two career games against Ohio, Patterson has run for just 75 yards on 21 carries.

The Bobcats will be

NFL reinstates Gordon, can play in final 2 games for Seattle

Published 4:55 p.m. ET Dec. 3, 2020 | Updated 5:39 p.m. ET Dec. 3, 2020

RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Josh Gordon was conditionally reinstated by the NFL on Thursday and can begin the process of joining the Seattle Seahawks’ roster as early as Friday.

Commissioner Roger Goodell reinstated Gordon after nearly a one-year suspension following his latest off-field transgression for violations of the league’s substance abuse policies. Gordon was suspended in December 2019 for violating the league’s drug policy. He tested positive for performance enhancers and “substances of abuse,” the league said in a statement at the time.

It was the eighth time overall Gordon had been suspended by either his team or the NFL, including six times since 2013, mostly for violating the league’s policies on banned substances.

But his time in Seattle last season was mostly positive and the Seahawks signed Gordon in September knowing there would
