Man City among long list of clubs ‘very closely’ monitoring situation of Erling Haaland

Manchester City are reportedly one of five major European clubs all ‘very closely following‘ the situation of Erling Braut Haaland (20) and his release clause at Borussia Dortmund, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Other named clubs are Juventus, Manchester United, Barcelona and PSG, according to the transfer insider.

It is believed that the seemingly bargain €75 million release clause in his contract can only be activated after he has spent two years in his current contract – meaning the clubs waiting in line may need to be patient until January 2022 to land his signature.

The Norwegian striker has made the headlines ever since joining Dortmund back in January, scoring a spectacular 23-minute hattrick after coming on as a substitute in his debut against Augsburg.

Vanderbilt coaching candidates: Clark Lea, Jay Norvell lead list of names to replace Derek Mason

Vanderbilt fired Derek Mason on Sunday after seven seasons leading the Commodores, which probably eliminates a high-profile defensive coordinator from taking the job. That’s exactly what Mason was when he came to Nashville from Stanford in 2014. Mason, though, could never get the offense humming.

The profile of the new coach should address those offensive struggles, but will it? The breaking point for Vanderbilt was a moribund 41-0 loss Saturday at Missouri. The Commodores have to be open to all options whether coordinators, current head coaches, unemployed coaches or Group of Five coaches. That said, Vandy has hired just one sitting head coach once in the last 34 years (Bobby Johnson).

Most importantly, a coach who takes this job will be accepting a risk. He must be able to afford a failure. The Vanderbilt job has been a bottomless pit recently. Who can take the gig, potentially get fired in

European storylines roundup: Schalke 04 lead list of clubs in disarray

A roundup of all the stories from around Europe you might have missed. This week, everybody’s in crisis.

Schalke 04 in freefall

Schalke 04 are winless, rooted to the bottom of Germany’s Bundesliga and the laughingstock of Europe at present after suspending two players, firing another and also parting ways with a technical director this week — all before a positive COVID-19 case was registered in the senior squad.

The Royal Blues are not the only side in the league yet to record a win with Cologne also struggling for form so far this campaign, but the Billy Goats’ malaise does not stretch as far back as Schalke’s with the Gelsenkirchen club without a Bundesliga win since January.

It is bad enough that the seven-time German champions are approaching a full calendar year without a league victory so demoting Amine Harit and Nabil Bentaleb, sacking Vedad Ibisevic — who was

Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett will miss Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars as he remains on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Brown coach Kevin Stefanski informed reporters of Garrett’s status Monday.

Garrett, who was drafted by the Browns with the first overall pick out of Texas A&M in 2017, has been a major piece of the Browns defense en route to their 7-3 start to the season. It follows his return from an indefinite suspension after a fight with Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph in the 2019 season. Appearing in eight games for Cleveland, Garrett has 9.5 sacks and four forced fumbles, tied for the league lead in both categories. He has 31 tackles and posted 13 quarterback hits.

During a Week 8 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, Garrett injured his knee, but team reporter Andrew Gribble reported that there was no structural damage and he

Savadori named at Aprilia on provisional MotoGP 2021 entry list

One-time MotoGP winner Iannone has been hit with a four-year competition ban for a doping violation after his appeal to have an initial 18-month ban was rejected by the Court of Arbitration for Sport and the World Anti-Doping Agency’s to up the penalty was approved.

Numerous names had been linked with the vacant Aprilia seat, including Andrea Dovizioso and Cal Crutchlow. But the outgoing Ducati rider never considered Aprilia a serious option and has opted for a sabbatical instead, while Crutchlow will join Yamaha as its test rider.

Aprilia CEO Massimo Rivola said last week test rider Bradley Smith was a “valid” option for 2021, though there have been question marks over his future with the marque after it replaced him with Savadori for the final three races of the season.

Moto2 frontrunner Marco Bezzecchi was offered a contract to join Aprilia next year, but the VR46 team blocked the

Ranking NFL franchise quarterbacks – How the 2017-2021 draft classes stack up, and why Trevor Lawrence is high on the list

The recent influx of talent at the quarterback position has transformed passing games across the NFL. We’ve seen 15 quarterbacks drafted in the first round of the past four drafts, with 11 of them currently serving as the starter for their respective franchise. On top of that, there are somewhere in the neighborhood of five more QBs primed to be selected in Round 1 next April at the 2021 NFL draft.

With that in mind, Pro Football Focus set out to rank the top 10 quarterbacks who we’d want to lead a franchise — based on talent alone, and not their respective contract situations — from the 2017-2021 NFL draft classes.

Draft class: 2017

Derrick James Rips Terence Crawford’s Resume: “On The Pound For Pound List He Has The Weakest Resume, They’re Matching Him Like A Prospect Still”

By: Hans Themistode

Derrick James, trainer of unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr., isn’t amongst those heaping praise on Terence Crawford for his latest performance. The WBO welterweight belt holder made it look easy in his fourth round stoppage win against former titlist Kell Brook last weekend.

Crawford, 33, struggled with Brook in the first two rounds before dropping and pounding him out shortly after. Following the win, Crawford (37-0, 28 KOs) received loads of praise for his handiwork. Yet for James, although Brook was a former champion, he wasn’t the same.

“I watched the fight,” said James on Fight Hub TV. “But to be honest, I don’t know how to take it. Kell looked pretty decent but he was kind of shot

Phillies’ prospect list should be viewed with caution after a year without minor-league seasons

Baseball America, one of the most respected publications and websites covering the game, released its list of top 10 Phillies prospects Wednesday.

Spencer Howard made six starts for the Phillies in 2020, but he maintained his status as a rookie and as the team’s No. 1 prospect on Baseball America’s top 10 list.

That’s a difficult assignment in the best of times because the talent evaluators putting the list together must weigh potential against performance on the field during the most recent season. The degree of difficulty increased tenfold in 2020 because there was no minor-league season to evaluate.

Applaud the magazine for going forward with its ratings anyway. At some point this offseason, it will also rank all 30 organizations based on the perceived strength of their minor-league systems. A year ago, the Phillies were listed at 26th, and such a low ranking
