It was soon determined that Syracuse guard Buddy Boeheim, who led the Orange in scoring with 23 points in its season-opening win over Bryant, would not be joining the festivities in the Carrier Dome. Contact tracing placed Boeheim in quarantine as he came in close contact with the Syracuse walk-on who

Jim Boeheim explains how Syracuse was able to play a basketball game after positive Covid test

Syracuse, N.Y. – Syracuse played a men’s basketball game against Niagara on Thursday night in the Carrier Dome. But neither Buddy Boeheim nor four other players were allowed to participate. One of them tested positive for Covid-19 last week; the others were considered close contacts and will need to quarantine for 14 days.

In his postgame remarks, SU coach Jim Boeheim characterized the person who tested positive as an SU walk-on. The university does not publicly identify players who test positive for Covid.

The last time a player and Jim Boeheim registered positive tests, the Orange was required to pause its basketball program while the positive cases spent 10 days in isolation and everybody else served a 14-day quarantine. This time, SU was able to use data collected from its wearable, wristwatch-like devices to convince Onondaga County Health Department officials to direct into quarantine only the people identified by the

It’s time for our predictions. The panel includes Brent Axe, sports columnist; Chris Carlson, sports reporter; Mike Curtis, sports reporter; and Nate Mink, SU football reporter.

Notre Dame 49, Syracuse 6

All things considered, this may be one of the biggest mismatches I’ve ever seen in my time covering Syracuse football. The only reason I don’t have the score higher is I think the Irish back off after gaining a big first-half lead to save the starters for bigger pursuits like the ACC Championship game and college football playoff.

Mutual Interest Between Syracuse and Former USC Commit

Class of 2021 Atlanta (Ga.) Marist School athlete Josh Moore has had a whirlwind recruitment. Moore released a top six of Boston College, Duke, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Stanford and Syracuse in May. One week after that, he committed to Stanford. In September, USC offered and he flipped his commitment a month after that. On Wednesday, Moore decommitted from the Trojans.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, I am no longer committed to USC,” Moore said. “My recruitment is open.”

Moore added that “it just didn’t work out with the staff” in a Twitter direct message. Since his decommitment, Moore says he has heard from several schools.

“Syracuse, Northwestern, UCLA, Stanford, Boston College, Michigan State and some others,” Moore said.

The 6-2 highly coveted prospect was committed to USC as a wide receiver, but is also being recruited as a defensive back by some schools.

Stacking Up: Notre Dame Offense vs. Syracuse

No. 2 Notre Dame (9-0) wraps up its 2020 regular season this weekend against the Syracuse Orange (1-9). The Fighting Irish should dominate this matchup, at least they should based on the on paper matchup.

We continue our coverage of the Notre Dame vs. Syracuse matchup by breaking down how the Fighting Irish offense stacks up on paper against the Orange defense.

Notre Dame Scoring Offense vs Syracuse Scoring Defense

Advantage: Notre Dame

Notre Dame has seen its offensive rankings go up the last month. The offense has averaged 494.8 yards per game and 6.7 yards per play in its last four games, up from 439.4 yards and 6.2 yards per play in the first five games.

The Irish relied on big plays against North Carolina, but it has been an efficient offense for much of the 2020 season. Notre Dame has been deadly on third-down, ranking 10th in

Notre Dame Fighting Irish VS Syracuse Orange: Football Betting Lines

Looking For Only the Pulp to be Remaining

People, the last regular season game of 2020 is upon us. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will take on the Syracuse Orange on Saturday afternoon. As you might have heard, the Irish were supposed to play Wake Forest on the 12th. However, the Demon Deacons football team has Covid issues. So, with trading Covid problems this season, the Irish will not play Wake Forest – we must not have been destined to play them this season.

But, that does leave us with the game against Syracuse coming up this weekend. And, for yet another time this season, the Irish are extremely heavy favorites. The Irish are on a tear this season. They are 9-0, they just beat UNC and stifled their great offense, and they have clinched a spot in the ACC Championship game. Oh yeah, and

2 Syracuse women’s basketball players on Wooden Award watch list

Syracuse, N.Y. — The talented backcourt of the Syracuse women’s basketball team had its spotlight turned up even more on Tuesday.

Guards Kiara Lewis and Tiana Mangakahia were both named to the 30-player Wooden Award women’s preseason watch list. That puts them in the running for the Wooden Award All-America Team and Most Outstanding Player Award.

The honor is the latest in a string of accolades for the pair. Both are among the 50 players named to the 2020-21 Naismith Award watch list.

Mangakahia is one of 20 players nominated for the Nancy Lieberman Award, which recognizes the nation’s best point guard in Division I women’s basketball. Lewis was nominated for the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award, which recognizes the nation’s best shooting guard.

The Wooden Award All-America Team will be announced the week of the Elite Eight round of the NCAA Tournament. The winner of the 2021 John R. Wooden

Syracuse men’s basketball drops after close escape, Bourama Sidibe’s injury

Syracuse, N.Y. — The college basketball season is expected to be weirder, wilder and less predictable than usual, the natural byproduct of teams trying to play basketball through the middle of a pandemic.

It was still weird to see all that zaniness play itself out on the court during the first week of the basketball season.

Better get used to it.

Four ACC teams had games canceled and that was only the start. Virginia, which started last week ranked No. 4 in the country, began the week scheduled to play Maine and Florida. The Cavaliers finished by playing Towson and San Francisco, losing the latter.

Pittsburgh and Georgia Tech (twice) joined Virginia in suffering losses

Bulldog Battle: Syracuse basketball defeats Bryant 85-84 (Brent Axe recap)

Syracuse, N.Y.— To play or not to play.

That apparently was the question.

The Syracuse university basketball team did play the Bryant Bulldogs on Friday afternoon at the Carrier Dome and won by a score of 85-84.

To hear Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim say the game should have never been played is just the latest item I didn’t have on my 2020 BINGO card.

The Orange went 12 days without practicing following a positive COVID-19 diagnosis for Boeheim and an unidentified player. Syracuse got to practice for the first time in nearly two weeks on Thanksgiving Day.

The result on Friday was a game Syracuse won by the hair on its chinny chin chin as the Orange were clearly out of synch after so much time off.

“The problem with this game, I made an unbelievable mistake,” Boeheim said. “You cannot play basketball when you don’t practice. That’s a

Bryant Head Coach Jared Grasso Rips Syracuse, Boeheim

Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim said both during halftime and after his team’s season opener against Bryant, which the Orange narrowly won 85-84, that the game should not have been played. He stated that the lack of practice (the program paused all activities after coach Boeheim tested positive for COVID-19) put his players at a disadvantage, but took responsibility for playing anyway.

“You cannot play basketball when you don’t practice,” Boeheim said after the game. “That’s a fundamental thing that everybody knows. We were playing really well two weeks ago. Go on 14 days, the players kept themselves in OK shape. We practiced yesterday and some guys were dying. Then we get into a game against a really good team, a smart team, a well coached team, we couldn’t run, we couldn’t shoot…

“But this is my fault. We should never have played this game. We should’ve come back, practiced,
