E-sports: Singapore to host US$300,000 M2 World Championship in January, Sport News & Top Stories

SINGAPORE – The world’s top Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) players will set foot in Singapore from Jan 18-24, with the Republic set to host the MLBB M2 World Championship behind closed doors.

Teams will compete for a prize purse of US$300,000 (S$402,210) at the Shangri-La Hotel with the necessary Covid-19 measures in place.

The M2 World Championship is co-organised by Mobile Legends game developer Moonton and the Singapore’s Cybersports and Online Gaming Association (Scoga) with the support of the Singapore Tourism Board (STB).

Mobile Legends is a mobile multi-player online battle arena game in which two opposing teams battle to destroy the enemy’s base while defending their own base and the teams vie for control of a path, which connects the bases.

Five-time MotoAmerica Superbike Champion Cameron Beaubier got to test his new American Racing Team Kalex Moto2 racebike for the first time last week at Jerez, and the 27-year-old California says he’s happy with everything about the test, his new bike, and his new American Racing Team.

“It was good to meet everybody, meet the team and get to know them, just to get my feet wet, just to know what to expect for next year and get a good first impression of the bike and all that,” Beaubier told Roadracingworld.com. “The first day on Thursday [November 26], I just went out for some half-wet/half-dry laps on rain tires just to kind of get a feel for the bike. Then Friday [November 27] it ended up being mostly dry, like dry with some wet patches here and there.”

Lebron James, Dustin Johnson and Katie Taylor among World Sport Star BBC SPOTY nominees

Basketball superstar Lebron James and golf’s Masters champion Dustin Johnson are among six nominees for the World Sports Star prize at the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year awards.

Voting is set to open for the BBC’s World Sport Star of the Year 2020 award at 07:00 GMT on Friday.

Voting will stay open until Tuesday, 15 December at 12:00 GMT and the awards will be presented at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year show live on BBC One on Sunday, 20 December.

Okolie was meant to face the Pole for the vacant WBO cruiserweight world title on his manager Anthony Joshua’s undercard next weekend.

Max Stauffer may have topped the times in the opening two MotorsportsTV Supersport practice sessions at the mi-bike Motorcycle Insurance ASBK, presented by Motul at Wakefield Park today, but it was Broc Pearson who ended up as the fastest rider for the day, setting a blistering 59.5s lap time in the final session, while Stauffer crashed at Turn 6.

Pearson, who finished runner-up behind Tom Toparis in last year’s series, said his team worked hard to adapt to Wakefield Park’s changing conditions over the course of the day.

The year 2020 marked RideHVMC Racing and Corey Alexander’s first full season of MotoAmerica competition since 2015 and a very successful one at that. The UCI announced Thursday that it has cancelled the junior men’s and women’s and under-23 men’s events that were scheduled to take place at the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cups in Namur on December 20 and Dendermonde on December 27, both in Belgium.

According to the sport governing body’s statement, it was forced to remove the three events from the schedule after the Belgium government enforced strict COVID-19 measures through January 15, 2021.

Under the new rules, which began at the end of October through November 19, professional sports must take place on empty grounds, while amateur sports competitions are prohibited
