Jaden Akins, Pierre Brooks and Kobe Bufkin rank among the nation’s top basketball players for the Class of 2021.
That’s according to Sports Illustrated, which has released its SI99. The list consists of the top 99 senior basketball prospects from across the United States, and it included the three Michigan players mentioned above.
All 99 seniors have earned the distinction of being named a Sports Illustrated All-American candidate. Please click here to see all 99 players.
Here’s a closer look at the three Michigan players:
*Akins, a 6-foot-3, 160-pound point guard, is a four-star prospect from Farmington who has committed to Michigan State. Akins averaged 23 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists per game a year ago. Akins, who played for Farmington High School the past three years, has joined the newly created Ypsilanti Prep Academy this year and is teammates with junior Emoni Bates.
*Bufkin, ranked 63rd among the list of prospects, stars for Grand Rapids Christian. The 6-foot-4, 175 four-star shooting guard will play at the University of Michigan. Bufkin averaged 22 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists his junior season.
*Pierre Brooks, is a 6-foot-6, 207, four-star shooting guard from Detroit Douglass, and Sports Illustrated has him ranked 71st in the nation. Brooks averaged 23.2 points, 7 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 2.7 steals last season. Brooks is headed to Michigan State.
Chet Holmgren, a 7-foot center, was selected the nation’s No. 1 prospect for the Class of 2021. Holmgren stars for Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis.
